序言 This Standard is revised according to the requirement of "Notice on the Plan of Formulating Industrial Standards in 2006" issued by the General Office of National Development and Reform Commission (No. 1093).
"Construction Specification for the Roller Compacted Bituminous Concrete Core of Earth and Rockfill Dam (Tentative)" (SD 220-1987) has been implemented for 20 years since being issued in 1987, it has played an active role in promoting the development of construction technology for hydraulic bituminous concrete and assuring the project quality in China. Due to its good performance in anti-seepage and adaptation to the settlement and deformation of earth-rockfill dams, the bituminous concrete has been increasingly applied to hydraulic structures and its construction technology and special construction equipment have become matured. In recent years, bituminous concrete anti-seepage technology has been applied in the upper reservoir of Tianhuangping Pumped Storage Power Station in Zhejiang Province, the upper reservoir of Zhanghewan Pumped Storage Power Station in Hebei Province, the Maopingxi Auxiliary Dam of Three Gorges Project in Hubei Province, the Yele Hydropower Station dam on Nanya River in Sichuan Province and the Nierji Hydropower Station Dam in Northeast China. With the progress of science and technology, the improvement of construction equipment and the innovation of construction technology for hydraulic bituminous concrete, SD 220-1987 is necessary to be.

6 Determination of Mix Proportion
6.0.1 The mix proportion shall be determined in three stages: lab test of mix design, trial placement and productive test.
6.0.2 Through lab test of mix design, two or three mix proportions of bituminous concrete shall be chosen for trial placement according to the design requirements.
6.0.3 The lab mix proportion of bituminous concrete shall be demonstrated and adjusted by trial placement to determine the productive mix design to know well the work process of bituminous concrete, such as material preparation, mixing, storage, transportation, paving, compaction and inspection, and to obtain and determine various construction parameters. The trial placement shall be carried out outside the paving working surface. It may be carried out at the paving locations through technical demonstration.
6.0.4 The productive test shall be carded out at the paving location of work with the mix proportion obtained through trial placement, demonstrating and adjusting the technical parameters for construction and determining the mix proportion for construction.
6.0.5 The construction mix proportion determined through tests shall not be changed at will. During production, if changes occur in grading of aggregate, the mix proportion shall be adjusted in time; if changes occur in the quality of bitumen or mineral material, mix proportion shall be retested.
