内容简介 Book Description
Thomas Bolden grew up on the streets, his childhood a blur of fragmented memories. But now he’s managed to put his past behind him, find the woman he wants to share his life with, and carve out a successful career on Wall Street. Until, in the blink of an eye, his world is turned upside down. A bizarre kidnapping sends him fleeing for his life, his face everywhere on the TV news, and a violent, shadowy organization is framing him for crimes he did not commit.

Desperately trying to get back to where he was just a day before, Bolden must re-learn the survival skills of his hardscrabble boyhood. But as Boldenwith just eleven dollars in his pocket and hunters all around himsurvives one violent, harrowing hour after another, he makes a series of startling discoveries: about a mysterious woman wanted for murder…about an astounding secret rooted in history, among the country’s Founding Fathers and families…about a conspiracy lurking in the darkest corners of corporate Americaand a deadly plan that only he can stop. And in the process, maybe Bolden will also find out who he really is....

Furiously paced, filled with brilliantly drawn characters from politicians to patriots, from Wall Street players to battle-hardened cops, The Patriots Club is vintage Reich: brilliant, breathtaking, and impossible to put down until the final unforgettable page is turned.

From Publishers Weekly
Thomas Bolden, successful 32-year-old investment banker and Harlem Boys Club Foundation trustee, has come a long way from his turbulent childhood on the mean streets of Chicago. But his street smarts surface at the start of Reich's action-packed but convoluted latest (after Numbered Account), when Bolden chases a pair of muggers through Manhattan's financial district after they rob his girlfriend, Jenny Dance. They abduct him at gunpoint, but after a perplexing interrogation by members of a mysterious clan, a narrow escape reunites him with Jenny. Bolden already knows too much, though, and the organization of the novel's title—a centuries-old secretive order of powerful lawyers, businessmen and politicians convened to preserve political special interest initiatives that the country's founding fathers defended—soon systematically dismantle Bolden's life. He and a newly pregnant Jenny run for their lives, tracked at every turn by the well-connected "club," which is headed by retired detective Francois Guilfoyle. While they each investigate the clandestine group, a flurry of politically fueled machinations unfolds, setting the stage for the obligatory showdown. Reich's conspiracy thriller eventually loses the momentum needed to deliver on the tight suspense it promises. (July)

From Booklist
Who would have thought that Thomas Bolden would become a successful Wall Street businessman, living the high life and about to become engaged to the perfect woman? Having grown up as "Tommy B from the wrong side of the tracks," Bolden is a bootstraps guy who managed to leave the past behind and carve out a nice life for himself--or so he thought. His world turns upside down when he is inexplicably kidnapped. His captors apparently think he has valuable information about something--but Bolden has no idea what. He's released, but his problems are far from over. Soon he becomes mired in a manhunt that forces him to tap into the street skills he learned as an orphan. As he runs for his life--literally--he uncovers secrets involving a bizarre club of corrupt politicos with roots extending back to the Founding Fathers. Bolden makes a captivating hero, as Reich uses the ordinary-man premise to good effect, engendering sympathy for a financier who never forgets his past. A first-rate, high-concept thriller that will leave readers breathless and cheering for Bolden to pull through.

From AudioFile
Thomas Bolden, now Wall Street financier, once a street-smart kid, is soon to be engaged. When he and girlfriend are mugged, he chases the thugs and discovers the attack was a ruse to kidnap him. David Aaron Baker delivers a tightly paced action-packed story in even, measured tones that ratchet up the tension. He characterizes crooked cops and diabolical politicians masquerading as patriots with appropriate voices. Wolf, a ruthless mercenary skilled at torture, is portrayed with menace as he works on Bolden to extract information and leave his "mark" on him. The story is complicated and requires close attention, but it's worth the effort. G.D.W.
