序言 Welcome to Guizhou！
Guizhou Province is located in Southwest China with apopulation of 36 million, officially made up of 76 county units（including 4 special districts and 11 autonomous counties）, 3 driesat prefectural level （Guiyang, Liupanshui and Zunyi）, 10 cides atcounty level （Anshun, Kaili, Duyun, Xingyi, Tongren, Bijie,Chishtfi, Qingzhen, Renhuai and Fuquan）. Guiyang is the capital,under the administration of which there are five districts and threecounties. For the convenience of travellers, this introductionorganizes Guizhou tourism according to its nine prefectural unitswith their beautiful scenic spots as well as their exouc ethniccustoms.
Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province,is the political,economic and cultural center of the province as well as the hub oftransportation and communication in Southwest China. It isconnected by air and rail to all the major dries in China. There arefive special trains for tourism: Fanjingshanhao to Zhenyuan andYuping （Tongren）, Wuyanghehao to Hangzhou, Huaxihao toKunming, Zunyihao to Zunyi City and Maotaihao to Beijing.
Guizhou is home to a pleasant climate, charming mountainsand waters, virgin forests and well-preserved natural ecosystem,and rich in natural resources. Its fantastic karst landscape ischaracterized by amazing pikes, streams and karst caves, formingan exotic wonderland where the Han and ethnic groups, such asthe Miao, Buyi, Dong, Yi and a dozen others have beencultivating the land, dancing and singing since time immemorial.Their customs and lifestyles are simple and natural. All these factorsmake up the unique natural scenery of this beautiful land.

The Hongfeng （Red Maple） Lake
The Pearl of the Guizhou Plateau, the Hongfeng Lake, is inQingzhen County and only 33 Km away from Guiyang. TheLake, covering an area of 57.2 sq kilorneters and holding 600milfion cubic meters of water, is the largest artificial lake on theGuizhou Plateau, 13 times as large as the Ming Tombs Reservoir inBeijing and over 10 times as large as the famous West Lake inHangzhou.
The Hongfeng Lake was built in 1958 when a power stationwas established. Beside the lake there is the Red Maple Ridge withmany red maple trees planted on and about it. In late fall, all themaple leaves turn red. That is how the lake got its name.
Scattered throughout the lake are 178 islands, some of whichresemble huge reefs, some look like screens and still others are justsmall rock-hills with water inside. By the lake there stands a Dong'sDrum Tower with a Roofed Bridge in front of it and the MiaoVillage Museum just opposite to it. Besides, The new-built BuyiViUage, Fengye （Red Maple Leaves） Villa and Golden-DreamGarden as a whole have formed a lovely garden of ethnic villages,not far from the Dong's Drum Tower.
