About Magic Tree House
Magic Tree House is a book series for young children written by Mary Pope Osborne and illustrated by Salvatore Murdocca. The series features two children, the bookworm, serious, intelligent Jack and his adventurous, excitable and imaginative younger sister Annie, who travel to historical places using a magic tree house. The magic tree house belongs to Morgan Le Fay who, in the series, is King Arthur's sister and a librarian. She uses the magic tree house to gather books from time and space.
Jack and Annie travel by opening a book, pointing at a picture of a place and then wishing that they could go there. The magic tree house then spins around and magically they arrive at the location. In the first series, Morgan Le Fey sends them on numerous adventures.
The first series contains 28 books. After the twenty-eighth, Mary Pope Osborne started a second series called the "Magic Tree House Merlin Missions". These books are longer than the other 28, and some take place in fantasy places. In these missions, Jack and Annie have quests from the ancient wizard Merlin the Magician. So far, there are 92 books named. Their titles are listed below. Twenty Five Magic Tree House Research Guides (nonfiction companions to the series) have been written to date with more information about the historical places and events which Jack and Annie visit in the Magic Tree House Series. The subject of the research guides is roughly in the same order as the subjects from the series. For example, the first book in the Research Guide series is called Magic Tree House Research Guide #1: Dinosaurs and is a nonfiction companion to "Magic Tree House #1: Dinosaurs Before Dark".
