Correct method: Hold thecup with one hand to make it oblique, press the skinaround the rim with the other hand to allow the air in, andthe cup can easily be removed.
1.6.2.8 While applying cupping with acupuncture, thecupping can cause skin prominence and muscle contrac-tion, which, coupled with the strike by the cup, can resultin the needle inserting deeper. This introduces the possibil-ity of pneumothorax, and it is, therefore, not advised to ap-ply cupping with acupuncture on points located over thechest or back.
1.6.2.9 Select small cups for patients on their first visit, the elderly, children, those with a weak constitution, ner-vousness or an empty stomach. For these patients, retainthe cups for a shorter time with a smaller negative pres-sure. In addition, ask them to take a lying position andkeep a close eye on their reactions to prevent fainting.
1.6.2.10 Small blisters, water beads, hemorrhagic spots, and itching in the local area are all normal reactions to cup-ping. Do not apply cupping on the same area before the ec-chymosis is totally resolved.
1.6.2.11 Cupping intervals are based on the ecchymo-sis and the patient's condition and constitution: a shorterinterval for acute conditions or those with strong body con-stitutions; and a longer interval for a chronic condition andthose with weak constitutions.
