From Arnosky's All About . . . series, this colorfully illustrated book may not tell all, but it includes plenty of information for primary-grade children about the owl's physical features and habits as well as more specific facts about a few American species. For instance, one helpful double-page spread focuses on owls' eyes, using paintings of a great horned owl to illustrate the skull structure, the pupils, the third eyelid, and the head swivel that allows owls to look behind them. Arnosky writes with clarity and a sure sense of what will interest young children. With its well-composed watercolor paintings, this volume will appeal to science-book browsers as well as young students researching the topic.
