Passage 1:
According to our experience of working in China over the last decade, the most significant factor in conducting business in China is a good partnership.//
Some foreign companies have had poor experiences with their partners in China and, as a result, some have pulled out of joint ventures. We are privileged to be working with the most successful domestic manufacturer in China.//
I think our Chinese partners would agree with me that their cooperation with General Motors has brought them fresh thinking from around the world.//
Of course, what our Chinese partners have brought to us is much greater, for instance, the knowledge of how to work efficiently within the Chinese system. I look forward to our many years of partnership and working with a world-class organization.

Passage 2:
Currently there is a widespread belief that the trend in the future is quick profits, quick growth and everything accomplished quick. However, to us young people, this is not the right message; it is nothing but an illusion.//
True, social changes brought about by even faster flows of information and advances in technology are irresistible today, but they do not always translate into wealth or success overnight.//
Steady and sure progress will still be the mainstream in the future growth. Such solid progress is in no contradiction with new developments in information and other technologies.//
Given the ever-changing technologies and fast-flowing information, we should do away with the slow changes and time-consuming decision-making in the old days. Yet we must maintain a steady and sustainable growth. This is the new value we need.

In Beijing, there are numerous Hutongs which means small lanes. The life of ordinary people in these lanes contributes greatly to the charm of this ancient capital Beijing’s.//
Hutong is the living environment of ordinary Beijing natives. It is also a kind of architecture… It reflects the vicissitude of society.//
Often there is a courtyard complex inside Hutong, with rooms for an average of 4 to 10 families of about 20 people. So life at Hutong is that of a friendly and interpersonal communication / atmosphere.//
Passage 2:

Recently, China has obtained its most accurate estimates yet of the spread of HIV/AIDS across the courtly by adopting international survey standards for the first time.//
Based on a joint survey conducted by the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO), 840,000 people in China are believed to have HIV/AIDS including 80,000 with full-blown AIDS.//
Health authorities concerned have sampled (among) 100,000 people in seven groups, including high-risk populations such as drug users and people selling blood on the black market.//
In order to control/check the transmission and spread of AIDS, our government has spent/expended a lot of human and financial resources every year. So far, it seems that one of the effective ways is to conduct large-scale campaign (movements) among the common people / mass education / educate people on a large scale.
