到公司第二天，小海就被安排去体检。“我被带到鼓楼医院和中大医院去体检，当时觉得刚入职体检很正常，只是体检的科目比较多，好像还有一项ECT，比一般常规体检复杂。”
小海回忆说，当时公司有求职者七八个人，由于人员进出频繁，彼此交流不是特别多，平时大家在公司学习资料，间或跟着老板出去跑一跑，要要账、吃吃饭什么的。同事中有个东北小伙张洋，中秋节前后突然消失了，小海问张洋哪儿去了，老板王金说小张出去跑业务了，张洋跑得不错，将给公司带来大笔收入。
此后不久，王金带着小海去收账，在湖南路一家银行，有人支付了35万元，其中20万付给医院，4万元打到张洋账上，王金得11万。当天晚上，王金找小海谈话：你知道我们是干什么的了吧，今天你也看到了，小张做得不错。小海当时没怎么反应过来，隐隐约约猜到是卖肾，但没把这事往自己身上联想，心想再怎么着也轮不到他头上。老板王金“交底”的当晚，还带小海去浴室洗了个澡。

被派出差却住在卫生院，一夜间丢了肾
2010年10月下旬，小海把张洋从医院接回来，随即被老板通知出差去徐州。此前王金带小海去了趟徐州谈生意，但没让他参加，小海一个人呆在宾馆里，其间有老板的两个朋友上门探望。此番去徐州，小海也没多想，老板再次“交底”，你身体合格，我也不跟你绕弯子了，你的体检信息和身份资料全传到徐州了。小海当时想跑，怎奈身份证被老板扣着，王金手下还有四个马仔看着他，他无奈被带到徐州。
小海当晚被带到徐州一偏僻城乡接合部，那里连宾馆都没有，直接住进医院。他只听到王金说了句“全都安排好了”，就再也见不到他了。当晚，护士给他端来一杯水，他喝下便昏睡过去。第二天早上醒来，感觉身体正在缝合，“我知道自己的一只肾没了，心里特恐怖。当时插着呼吸机，手脚被捆，人侧卧着，但意识渐渐清醒，想喊却说不出话来，感觉特无助。”回忆当时手术的情形，小海至今心有余悸。
手术当晚，麻药药效过去，小海忍受着巨大的疼痛，让他更加难以忍受的，是无助的煎熬。“这简陋的医院里不认识一个人，我一个人住一间大病房，整个三楼也就我一个人住，感觉真像恐怖电影里的镜头，说难听点好像在屠宰场。”
（揭开谜团：小海事后才搞明白，第一次出差徐州，到宾馆探望王金的客人，其实就是去看他的买家，老板还暗中用他的身份证办了张银行卡，手术后往卡里打点钱算是报酬，这手术他根本不同意也没签字，他询问院方，给他的回复都是家属签字同意的，其实是王金一手操办“全都安排好了”。）
