Zami: A New Spelling of My Name: A Biomythography

“ZAMI is a fast-moving chronicle. From the author’s vivid childhood memories in Harlem to her coming of age in the late 1950s, the nature of Audre Lorde’s work is cyclical. It especially relates the linkage of women who have shaped her . . . Lorde brings into play her craft of lush description and characterization. It keeps unfolding page after page.”—Off Our Backs

Interesting at times. But frustrating to read and get through. There were some good moments but overall... didn't captivate me. Perhaps because I am not big into poetry and it was poetically written.

Wonderful achievement in prose and story telling. This is an account of a personal journey that touches everyone, regardless of race, gender or orientation.

Lorde's language is as enchanting as her narrative and explorations. This text is quite the complement to her theoretical work, providing a praxis and history.
